Last week a dear friend lost her son…a brother and sister lost a brother…and the whole community mourned. And that’s o.k.
Even Jesus wept.
When life takes a sudden turn and punches you in the gut and drops you to your knees, what do you do? I am reminded of Bob Goff’s book Love Does. It’s as simple as that.
In the midst of pain and sorrow—Love Does.
In the midst of joy and gladness—Love Does.
In the midst of life and death—Love Does.
Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, but today, today you can love.
Love is sitting with a friend, holding their hand.
Picking them up when they’re too weak to stand.
It’s laughter and tears,
And calming their fears.
It’s sunshine and rainbows and mountains too climb,
It’s kisses and hugs when the sun doesn’t shine.
Love is carrying them through when they can’t see the light,
It’s crying with them and holding them tight.
Love doesn’t boast and love doesn’t brag,
Love simply is when you’re flat on your back.
Love lives in the ruins, the ashes and grief,
Love whispers sweet blessings when you’re too tired to speak.
Love can’t be measured or counted or weighed,
Love does is more powerful than what you can say.
As we walk through Holy Week, may we all be reminded of Jesus and walk as He walked. Jesus is love in action. Everywhere He went, everyone He touched received His love.
The sinners and the saints.
The rich and the poor.
The sick and the outcast.
The leper and the lame.
The blind and the deaf.
He treated them with compassion. May He be our measuring line.
When you don’t know what to say…Love does.
