Fear Of Missing Out! Oh, what a tangled web we weave. If ever there was a colossal lie this is it. Perpetuated by the absurdity of social media, by “Fake Book,” and “Insta” everything we are 360’d to death. We are photo shopped to look like an alien version of our selves. “Nothing says you are perfect like an app that tells you you aren’t beautiful enough.”
When did we buy into this? This insidious out bragging of each other, slaves to clicks and likes and “perfect” pictures. We are all a hairs breadth away from becoming stepford clones in a B movie version of “The Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” or worse some polyester, narcissist who spends their life looking at their own face. We are selfied to death.
Here is the awful truth. You are going to miss out. You are not going to get invited to everything, and sometimes that will hurt. People will dislike you. You will dislike other people. You can’t make everyone happy, I know, I’ve tried, and it’s a futile effort. However, you can be kind, generous and forgiving. You can be hurt without being hurtful, become better not bitter.
We all want to belong, to be loved, to be accepted. We all want to be happy. But, you cannot put your hopes into another person to “make” you happy, another event, more clothes, a new car…you know the drill. What if we all stepped back from the table and embraced our differences, our uniqueness, our individuality…what a beautiful world this would be.
So, here’s my challenge today. Stop picking yourself apart. Stop believing the lies and the hurtful comments others say about you. Write your story. Don’t let anyone else write your story for you. That’s a whole other blog post! When you go to the mirror today, look yourself level in the eye, and see the light there. See the you that is beautiful and wonderful and miraculous!
What’s one word that describes you the best!
