They say the first shall be the last and the last shall be first. Why then is everyone fighting to get to the front of the line casting backward glances to see who is on their heels? Why do so many seek offices of power and glory and spoils when it all turns to rot?
What must you have that you do not have? What can you lose that you can never regain?
Time waits for no man…not even Kings.
So, what is in a day? Everything and nothing.
Do you take power in revenge? Do you entertain your enemies’ destruction? Do you drink the poisonous draught of envy, hate, greed, and rage? Do you snatch the cup from the hand you call friend?
Everything and nothing are but a chamber apart.
Waking and sleeping, truth and lies…we bind ourselves to the wrestling, to “Win the Day!” A futile exercise in hooting and reveling if you neglect your guests. The ones who knock on your door and the ones left waiting in the cold.
We are more than great characters on a stage until we decay. Each day you are free to choose what is in a day. I pray we all wake from our dream like state, from our madness that weighs us down. I pray that hour by hour from our first bout to our last that our hearts wax heavy for our fellow man. That we overcome the demon of pride and arrogance that throws us over.
Some say time is the demon. For it cannot be vanquished. What if a moment was as a day, and a day a moment. How then would you stand?
These things shall have an end.
I long for peace amidst the scratching and the clawing, the breaking and the killing. I believe in my heart we are all great champions, great keepers of the day, that the state of man is not sick.
So, here beneath the moonless night, I will listen to the music in the branches, pray for rich and poor alike, and drink deep the melody of the day.
What is in a day?
Everything and nothing.
