In a noisy world everyone seems to be saying, please notice me. The youth of today have been programmed to seek out erroneous and false attention in the age of selfies, to paint themselves as something they are not…and then wonder why no one is noticing them in a sea of sameness.
When did this culture begin to breed this behavior? What began as innovation has now stripped us of identity. When did becoming fake become real?
Our eyes can see. Or can they? To all the young women. You are enough. You do not have to be a model, a queen of beauty, an ornament, an object. You are more. You can astonish the world. Don’t buy into the labels, the frozen countenances that darken your heart, do not let yourself be stolen by the thief of lies.
Yes, everyone wants to be noticed, but be certain you are being noticed for the right things, the true things, not something that fades after the flash of a bulb. Stand for something. For somebody. Do not give into the cruel perversion of “self’ that slowly kills us all.
Some say even negative attention is attention and is better than no attention at all. I call bull. I know we are all lonely in a crowded world that is why seeking true relationship; true community is the thing that will cure our ailments. People do care.
Don’t be a cheap imitation of you. Don’t build a false fortress then be surprised when your walls come crashing down. Take time to build a firm foundation, from within. The outward is just a shell. Give the gift of true love and true friendship. We don’t bite.
Please notice me. I have… and others will.
