Just Keep Going Until You Get There

You can’t get there from here. I love that phrase. It is so true on so many levels. How many times have we felt that…that we just can’t get there from here, but there is always a way. We just have to find it. And, perhaps in our finding it, we find ourselves.

The trick is how to find joy in the journey until you get there, and truly, are we ever really “there” wherever this proverbial there is? Aren’t we always learning, seeking, and searching. How many times do we need to study it again? Maybe it is in the planning and the striving and the studying and the dreaming that we become unlikely masters. Maybe we just glimpse that thing that is so far away, perhaps that is what keeps us leaning in and moving forward.

But that is the key, to keep going. Do not roll up your bag and set up camp. Yes, there is tricky ground, uneven slopes, steep, unrelenting cliffs that beat you back, all the more glorious when you reach the last pass and stand on the top of the peak and look back at how far you’ve come…then catch a glance at the mountain peaks still looming in the distance.

That’s what gets my heart drumming, drives me forward when the great weight of my strength is too hard to carry. My fight today will not be my fight yesterday or my fight tomorrow, and I know if I rely on my own strength, I will fail. Do not say goodbye to hope. Long for the “sweet air” that is stronger, for the great stream of heaven’s sword to swing the battle.

Keep going until you get there. Where are you going?
